Justice That Heals
A devotional for Thursday
“For the LORD loves justice and will not abandon his faithful ones.”
Psalm 37:28
Reflection:
God’s justice isn’t just about punishing evil. It’s about setting things right. In Hebrew, the word mishpat means both retributive and restorative justice. It’s not only what God does against wrong; it’s what He does for the broken. Jesus calls His followers to live out that same justice: lifting up the vulnerable, defending the overlooked, and creating systems that reflect heaven’s fairness. The Father in Luke 15 doesn’t only forgive the prodigal; He restores him – robe, ring, shoes, dignity. That’s mishpat in motion.
Question/Challenge:
Where might God be calling you to practice restorative justice – to help someone not just feel forgiven, but fully restored?
