Who Is Writing Your Story?

A devotional for Monday

"The LORD doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT)

Everyone has a story about who you are. Your family has one. Your friends have one. Your coworkers have one. And whether you realize it or not, you've written one about yourself too. David was surrounded by people who thought they understood his story: he was young, inexperienced, and certainly not the obvious choice to face a giant. But God saw something different. God wasn't limited by David's appearance, résumé, or other people's expectations. He saw David's heart and knew exactly what He had created David to become. The same God sees you more completely than anyone else ever could. The labels others give you don't get the final word, and neither do the limitations you've placed on yourself. When God's perspective becomes the loudest voice in our lives, we can begin living out the story He is writing instead.
