When God Shows Up, Things Shake

A devotional for Monday

Matthew 28:2
“Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven…”

We often imagine God’s presence bringing calm and comfort. And sometimes it does. But throughout Scripture, when God shows up, things don’t always stay still. The ground shakes. Circumstances shift. People are stirred. Easter morning didn’t begin with quiet celebration; it began with an earthquake. That tells us something important about the nature of God’s work. He doesn’t just comfort us where we are; He transforms us. And transformation often feels unsettling before it feels peaceful. When things in your life feel shaken, it’s easy to assume something has gone wrong. But what if something is actually being made new? What if the shaking isn’t a sign of God’s absence, but of His presence? God moves in ways that disrupt what is familiar so that something greater can take shape.

Question/Challenge:
Where in your life feels shaken right now, and how might God be working in the middle of it?
