Thirst Is Not Failure

A devotional for WednesdayScripture: Exodus 17:7 “Is the Lord here with us or not?” Reflection: Thirst has a way of making us question everything. In the wilderness, Israel wasn’t wrong to need water. Their bodies were exhausted, their children were crying, and the desert was unforgiving. The problem wasn’t thirst. It was what they concluded about God because of it. We often confuse need with abandonment. When prayers go unanswered or strength runs out, doubt slips in quietly. We begin to wonder if God’s presence has faded. Lent does not ask us to pretend we aren’t thirsty. It invites us to bring that thirst honestly before God. Faith does not eliminate suffering, but it changes how we interpret it. God’s silence does not equal God’s absence. Even Jesus cried out in thirst on the cross. Our need becomes holy when it drives us toward God instead of away from Him. Thirst can deepen trust when we resist the urge to retreat to old comforts. Question/Challenge: Where are you experiencing thirst right now, and how might God be inviting you to seek Him rather than escape the discomfort?
