The Lie of Scarcity
-(31)__largepreview__.webp)
A devotional for Tuesday
Acts 2:45
“They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.”
Scarcity tells us there will never be enough. Not enough money. Not enough time. Not enough security. So we cling tightly to what we have. But the early believers lived differently because they trusted God differently. Their generosity flowed from confidence that God would continue to provide. This doesn’t mean they were reckless. It means they weren’t ruled by fear. Scarcity causes us to protect ourselves at all costs. Trust opens our hands. When we believe everything ultimately belongs to God, generosity becomes possible. We stop seeing our possessions as things to hoard and start seeing them as tools to love others. Fear says, “What if I don’t have enough?” Faith says, “God will help me care for what He’s entrusted to me.”
Question/Challenge:
What is one area where fear or scarcity may be keeping you from generosity?
