Surrender Before the Furnace

A devotional for Friday

"The God whom we serve is able to save us...But even if he doesn't... we will never serve your gods."
Daniel 3:17-18 (NLT)

The greatest act of faith in this story didn't happen inside the furnace. It happened before the furnace door ever opened. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego surrendered themselves to God before they knew how the story would end. That's what surrender looks like. It isn't waiting to obey until we know the outcome. It's placing our lives completely in God's hands because we trust His heart. Surrender can feel frightening because it requires giving up control. Yet freedom is found when we stop clinging to our own plans and begin trusting God's. Every day presents us with small opportunities to surrender our fears, our expectations, and our future to Him. The more we practice surrender, the more we discover that His grace truly is enough. God's ability has always been greater than our own.
