Standing in Grace
A devotional for Tuesday
Scripture:
“Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
Romans 5:2a
Reflection:
Grace is not just how we begin our relationship with God; it is where we live. Romans 5 says we stand in grace, not visit it occasionally. That means grace is the ground beneath our feet, not a reward we step onto when we behave well. Many believers unconsciously move from grace to striving, assuming maturity means less dependence. But Scripture teaches the opposite: maturity means deeper trust. Standing in grace means we don’t collapse when we fail or become arrogant when we succeed. Grace keeps us steady. It reminds us that God’s posture toward us is generosity, not tolerance. When we forget we stand in grace, we become harsh with ourselves and others. We start believing that pressure produces holiness. But grace produces transformation because it creates safety. Safety allows honesty, and honesty invites healing. Grace doesn’t excuse sin; it gives us the courage to face it without hiding. This is the atmosphere where real growth happens.
Question/Challenge:
What would change today if you truly believed grace is where you stand, not something you fall in and out of?
