Running on Empty

A devotional for Monday

Scripture: John 15:5 “Apart from me you can do nothing.”

Reflection:

Most things don’t stop working all at once; they slowly lose power. Relationships are often the same way. We don’t wake up disconnected; we drift there. Joy fades before commitment does. Patience disappears before love does. We stay present, but we’re no longer powered. Jesus reminds us that fruitfulness doesn’t come from effort alone, but from connection. When we disconnect from Him, we may still function, but not well. We start blaming people for what is really a power issue. Abiding is not a spiritual bonus; it’s the source of life. Without it, even good relationships begin to feel heavy. Staying connected to Jesus is not about trying harder; it’s about staying close.

Question/Challenge:

Where might you be functioning on low power instead of reconnecting to the source?
