Remember the Lions and Bears

A devotional for Thursday

"The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!"
1 Samuel 17:37 (NLT)

David had never faced Goliath before, but he had faced other things that once seemed impossible. When everyone else saw an inexperienced boy, David remembered the evidence of God's faithfulness. He remembered the lion. He remembered the bear. Those previous battles became reminders that the same God who had been faithful before would remain faithful now. We need those reminders too. When today's giant feels enormous, look backward for a moment. Remember the prayer God answered. Remember the season you thought you wouldn't survive. Remember the provision that came at exactly the right time. Remember the strength you somehow had when your own strength was gone. Remembering doesn't guarantee that God will handle today's situation exactly as He handled yesterday's. It reminds us that His character hasn't changed. The God who carried you then is still your God today.
