My Way or God’s Way?

A devotional for Thursday

“May the LORD judge between us. Perhaps the LORD will punish you for what you are trying to do to me, but I will never harm you.”
1 Samuel 24:12 (NLT)

David had already been anointed as Israel's future king. Saul was standing between David and something God had promised him. In the cave, David suddenly had the power to remove that obstacle himself. But he refused. David trusted God's promise enough that he didn't need to force God's timing. That's an incredibly difficult kind of surrender. Sometimes we know what we want, believe it's good, and even think God may be leading us toward it, but then we're tempted to manufacture the outcome ourselves. David reminds us that God's will accomplished our way isn't necessarily God's way. Faith means trusting not only what God has promised but also how and when He chooses to accomplish it. We don't have to manipulate, force, retaliate, or grasp for control. We can faithfully do what is right and leave the outcome with Him.
