More Than Hearing

A devotional for Monday

Deuteronomy 6:4
"Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone."

Most of us have heard things we never truly listened to. We heard the words, but they never made it into our hearts or changed our actions. That's why the Shema is so important. The word "listen" in this passage means much more than simply hearing sounds. It means paying attention, internalizing the message, and responding with obedience. God wasn't asking His people to memorize information. He was inviting them into a way of life. The goal wasn't knowledge alone. The goal was transformation. It's possible to know a lot about God while still missing what He wants to do in us. True listening changes us. It shapes our priorities, influences our decisions, and affects how we treat others. When God's truth moves from our ears to our hearts, it begins to show up in our lives.
