Loved Before You Tried
A devotional for ThursdayScripture: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 Reflection: God’s love did not wait for improvement. It moved toward us at our worst, not our best. This verse dismantles the lie that we must become lovable before we are loved. God’s love is demonstrated, not debated. The cross is proof that His love is decisive and costly. Many of us believe God loves us now because we’re doing better than before. But Romans 5 says God loved us then, when we were still broken. That means His love is not fragile or conditional. It also means we don’t need to hide our mess to stay close to Him. Shame tells us to clean up before approaching God, but grace invites us to come as we are. When we truly grasp this love, obedience becomes a response, not a requirement. Love motivates change more powerfully than fear ever could. Living loved changes how we see ourselves and others. Question/Challenge: What part of your story do you still believe disqualifies you from being fully loved?
