Love That Moves First

Published February 15, 2026

A devotional for Wednesday

Scripture: John 15:12 “Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”

Reflection:

Jesus never commands love without showing us what it looks like. His love moves first. It doesn’t wait for apologies, agreement, or improvement. Jesus initiates love even when it costs Him. That kind of love disrupts our instincts for self-protection. We prefer fairness; Jesus offers grace. We wait to be understood; Jesus steps toward us anyway. Loving like Jesus means choosing reconciliation over winning. It means patience with weakness instead of weaponizing it. This love doesn’t ignore boundaries, but it does pursue peace. Sacrificial love always leaves fingerprints. When love costs something, it reveals its depth.

Question/Challenge:

Who might God be inviting you to love first rather than waiting on?
