Longing for God, Not Just His Gifts

Published March 1, 2026

A devotional for Friday

Scripture:
Psalm 84:11–12 — “The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

Reflection:
It is easy to desire what God provides without desiring God Himself. We ask for peace, strength, blessing, and security. Yet Psalm 84 reminds us that God is not merely a giver; He is the gift. He is described as sun and shield, grace and glory. Everything we need flows from who He is. When longing is directed only toward outcomes, disappointment is inevitable. But when longing is centered on God, trust grows. God withholds no good thing, but He defines what is truly good. His presence reshapes our understanding of blessing. Trusting Him means believing He knows what our souls require. Worship realigns our desires. In God’s presence, rest replaces restlessness. What we were searching for elsewhere is found in Him.

Question/Challenge:
Are you longing more for God’s gifts or for God Himself?
