Knowing Who You Are

A devotional for Thursday
"Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in him."
Daniel 3:28 (NLT)
Before they were thrown into the furnace, these young men had already settled who they belonged to. Babylon could change their names, educate them in its culture, and pressure them to conform, but it could not change their identity. The same is true for followers of Jesus today. Our culture constantly tries to tell us who we are and what should matter most. But our identity is not found in success, popularity, politics, careers, or possessions. We belong to Christ. When our identity is secure in Him, we can remain faithful even when the pressure increases. The fire doesn't define us - our Savior does. Every day we have the opportunity to remember whose we are before we decide what we'll do. A settled identity produces a steadfast faith.
Question:
What voices compete with God's voice when it comes to your identity?
