Joy Is Deeper Than Happiness

A devotional for Thursday

Scripture: John 15:11 “I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you.”

Reflection:

Joy is not the same as constant happiness. Happiness depends on circumstances; joy flows from connection. Jesus never promised an easy life, but He did promise His joy. That joy doesn’t erase grief. It steadies us through it. It doesn’t deny pain. It gives us strength within it. Relationships rooted in joy feel secure, not fragile. They make room for growth instead of fear. Joy grows where grace is practiced freely. It allows people to fail without being discarded. When joy drains from relationships, pressure usually replaces it. Abiding restores joy not by fixing people, but by reconnecting us to love.

Question/Challenge:

Do your relationships feel more pressured or more joyful and why?
