Following the King He Actually Is

A devotional for Friday
John 18:36
“My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom…”
Jesus didn’t come to fit into our expectations. He came to establish a different kind of Kingdom. One marked by humility, sacrifice, and love. Following Him means stepping into that reality. It means redefining what strength looks like. What success looks like. What victory looks like. The crowd in Jerusalem missed this because they were focused on what they wanted Jesus to do for them. But Jesus was inviting them into something deeper. A life shaped by His Kingdom, not their own agendas. We face that same choice today. Will we follow Jesus as He is, or will we only follow when it aligns with what we want? True discipleship begins when we stop trying to shape Jesus into our image and allow Him to shape us into His. That’s where real life is found.
Question/Challenge:
Are you following Jesus for what He can do for you, or for who He truly is?
