Faith Is Bigger Than Fear

A devotional for Monday

"Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, 'O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn't, we want to make it clear to you... we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.'"
Daniel 3:16-18 (NLT)

Faith isn't believing that God will always make life easy. Faith is trusting God no matter what the outcome may be. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego believed God could rescue them, but they also recognized that His plans were greater than their preferences. Their obedience wasn't dependent on receiving a miracle. They had already decided that God was worthy of their trust. We often bargain with God by saying, "If You'll fix this, then I'll trust You." These three men flipped that thinking upside down. They trusted first and left the results in God's hands. Mature faith says, "God, I know You are able. Even if You choose a different path than I would, I will still follow You." That kind of faith cannot be shaken by circumstances because it is anchored in God's character instead of our comfort. Today, remember that your confidence is in who God is, not in how He answers.
