Decide Who You Are Before the Moment Comes

A devotional for Monday

“He was a man after God’s own heart and would do all my will.”
Acts 13:22 (NLT)

David walked into a cave and unexpectedly found the man who had been hunting him completely vulnerable. Everything about the situation seemed to say, “This is your chance.” Even the people around David interpreted the opportunity as God’s blessing. But David had already decided something more important than what he would do: he knew who he wanted to be. He belonged to God, and that identity shaped his response. We often wait until a difficult situation arrives to decide what matters most to us. By then, emotions are high, voices are loud, and the easiest option can become incredibly appealing. God wants to form our character before those moments arrive. When we know who we are in Christ, our circumstances no longer get to decide who we become. The values we practice on ordinary Tuesdays become the convictions we depend on when life gets complicated. The best time to decide who you want to be in the jungle is before you enter it.
