Better Is One Day

A devotional for Thursday

Scripture:
Psalm 84:10
“A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else!”

Reflection:
This verse confronts our preferences more than our theology. It forces a comparison we might rather avoid. One day with God versus endless days elsewhere. The psalmist doesn’t hesitate. He chooses presence over comfort, closeness over status. He would rather stand at the door of God’s house than live comfortably apart from Him. This is not about rejecting good things; it is about rightly ordering them. When God is central, everything else finds its place. When He is secondary, even blessings become distractions. True joy flows from proximity, not prosperity. The psalmist teaches us that fulfillment is found not in what we possess, but in where we dwell.

Question/Challenge:
What would your life look like if God’s presence was your greatest preference?
