A Holy Longing

A devotional for Monday

Scripture:
Psalm 84:2
“I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord.”

Reflection:
We all long for something, but not all longings are the same. Some desires are loud and urgent, while others are quiet and persistent. The psalmist names a longing that goes beyond comfort or answers: a longing for God Himself. This kind of desire doesn’t come from obligation; it comes from recognition. The soul remembers where it belongs. Longing for God is not weakness; it is awareness. It acknowledges that no substitute can satisfy what only His presence can fill. This longing engages the whole person...body, soul, mind, and strength. It moves beyond belief into desire. When longing is ignored, it doesn’t disappear; it redirects itself elsewhere. But when longing is aimed toward God, it becomes worship. Holy longing is the doorway into deeper intimacy.

Question/Challenge:
What do your longings reveal about where your heart believes life is found?
