Blessed to Be a Blessing
A devotional for Monday
Scripture:
“I will bless you… so that you will be a blessing.”
Genesis 12:2 (NRSV)
God’s first promise to Abram reveals something essential about God’s nature. God does not bless people so they can collect comfort, status, or security. God blesses people so blessing can move through them. Abram is promised land, legacy, and favor, but the purpose of it all is outward-facing. From the very beginning, God’s plan has always been bigger than one person, one family, or one nation. Blessing is not meant to stop with us; it is meant to flow through us. When we treat God’s blessings as something to protect, we misunderstand their purpose. Blessing is not a reward for good behavior but a responsibility entrusted to faithful people. God’s generosity toward us is meant to shape our generosity toward others. This reframes how we think about our time, resources, and influence. We are not owners of what we’ve been given; we are stewards. When we live this way, our lives become conduits of God’s grace in the world. The question is no longer “What has God done for me?” but “Who does God want to bless through me?”
Question/Challenge:
Where has God blessed you, and how might He be inviting you to let that blessing reach someone else?
