Seeing Others Through God’s Eyes
A devotional for Thursday
Scripture:
“The LORD does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7 (NRSV)
It is easy to judge others by their actions while hoping to be understood by our intentions. We want grace for ourselves but often struggle to extend it to others. God, however, sees people through the lens of redemption. Every person we encounter bears the image of God, even when that image feels distorted by brokenness. When we forget this, our responses become harsh or dismissive. Seeing others the way God sees them requires intentionality and humility. It means resisting the urge to reduce people to their worst moments. God’s grace does not excuse sin, but it refuses to give up on people. Love is not simply tolerance, and grace is not a free pass. Instead, love and grace invite transformation. When we respond the way God responds, we reflect His character to the world. This is how blessing moves beyond us.
Question/Challenge:
Who is God inviting you to see differently this week?
