Seeing the Image in Others

Dr. Jeremy Selvidge   -

A devotional for Wednesday

Scripture: Matthew 7:12 (NLT)
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”

Reflection:
Most of us want to be seen for our best moments, not our worst ones. We want grace when we fall short and understanding when we struggle. Yet we often extend to others only what their behavior seems to deserve. Jesus calls us to something deeper, to recognize shared dignity before shared agreement. Seeing the image of God in others means refusing to let worst-case assumptions define our relationships. It requires choosing curiosity over judgment and compassion over suspicion. This kind of vision doesn’t ignore sin or brokenness; it looks beyond it. When we see others through the lens of God’s image, our responses begin to change. Love becomes proactive, not reactive. This is how God sees us, and how He invites us to see others.

Question/Challenge:
How would your conversations change if you assumed the best instead of expecting the worst?
