Every Christian Is a Theologian
A devotional for Tuesday
Scripture
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Reflection
Whether we realize it or not, every person carries beliefs about God. Those beliefs shape how we see ourselves, how we treat others, and how we respond to suffering and joy. That means every Christian is a theologian, not because we’ve studied formally, but because we live out what we believe about God every day. The danger comes when we don’t examine those beliefs. We often absorb ideas about God from culture, family systems, past wounds, or social media without realizing it. Then we approach Scripture expecting it to affirm what we already think. When that happens, God becomes smaller, safer, and more manageable than the God revealed in the Bible. True transformation requires intentional reflection. It requires asking hard questions and allowing God’s revelation to challenge us. Theology is not about winning arguments or having perfect answers. It is about allowing the truth of who God is to reshape the way we live.
Question / Challenge
What beliefs about God might you be living out without ever having intentionally examined them?
