The Father’s Heart Is Wider Than We Think

Pastor Thomas Crummer   -

A devotional for Friday

“I pray that you… may have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”
Ephesians 3:17–18

Reflection:
We’ve underestimated God’s love. We’ve boxed it in, trimmed its edges, and made it neat enough for Sunday mornings. But Jesus’ stories refuse to fit in our boxes. His grace spills out over the sides, chasing sheep, coins, sons, and Pharisees alike. The Prodigal Father doesn’t choose between love and justice. He is perfectly both. He’s the God who runs down roads and the God who calls hearts to repentance. His mercy is vast, but His holiness is sure. That’s the tension and beauty of the gospel: love that’s wider than our sin and deeper than our pride.

Question/Challenge:
How can you expand your picture of God’s love this week to see it as both lavish and holy, both tender and true?
