The God Who Took Our Place
A devotional for Thursday
“Anyone who is hung on a tree is cursed in the sight of God.”
Deuteronomy 21:23
Reflection:
In the old covenant, rebellion led to death and curse. But Jesus flipped the story. He became the one “hung on a tree” so we could be freed from that curse. The Father didn’t stone His rebellious children; He sent His Son to be lifted up in their place. Grace isn’t God ignoring sin; it’s God absorbing it. The cross is where justice and mercy collided, and mercy won. The Father who ran down the road in the parable is the same Father who ran toward humanity through the cross.
Question/Challenge:
Take a moment today to thank God for the mercy that ran to you through Jesus. How can you extend that mercy to someone else?
