Knowing God Through the Whole Story
A devotional for Wednesday
Scripture
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)
Reflection
God does not reveal Himself in isolated moments or disconnected stories. Scripture tells one unified story of a God who creates, rescues, restores, and redeems. From the burning bush to the cross, God consistently moves toward humanity in love and grace. Moses encounters a God who hears the cries of the oppressed and acts on their behalf. Centuries later, Jesus embodies that same God by entering human suffering rather than standing above it. The Bible does not present a tyrant God who rules through fear, but a faithful God who keeps promises across generations. When we read Scripture selectively, we risk misunderstanding God’s character. But when we step back and see the whole story, we discover a God whose purposes remain steady even when circumstances are chaotic. This unified story invites us to trust that God is at work beyond what we can see. Knowing God requires immersing ourselves in the full narrative, not just our favorite parts.
Question / Challenge
How might your view of God change if you intentionally engaged Scripture as one continuous story instead of isolated passages?
