Created in the Image of God

Dr. Jeremy Selvidge   -

A devotional for Monday

Scripture: Genesis 1:27 (NLT)
“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Reflection:
From the very beginning, humanity is marked by intention and dignity. Being made in the image of God is not something we earn or achieve; it is something we are given. This image is not about physical resemblance but about reflecting God’s character, creativity, and relational nature. Every person you encounter carries this divine imprint, whether it is visible or buried beneath pain, sin, or brokenness. Sin does not erase the image of God, but it can obscure it. That means our calling is not to decide who is worthy of dignity, but to recognize dignity that already exists. When we forget this, people become obstacles, enemies, or objects instead of neighbors. God invites us to see humanity the way He does, with hope, patience, and purpose. Seeing the image of God in others begins with believing it is truly there.

Question/Challenge:
Who is someone you struggle to see as bearing the image of God, and what would change if you intentionally looked for that image today?
