Seeing, Hearing, and Speaking with Joy
A devotional for Wednesday
Scripture
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy, for water will gush in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
Isaiah 35:5–6
Reflection
Happiness is often tied to what we can see going well in our lives. Joy reshapes how we see everything. Isaiah describes eyes opening, ears unstopping, bodies leaping, and tongues shouting for joy. These images point to more than physical healing. They reveal spiritual renewal. God restores our ability to recognize His work, hear His voice, and speak of His goodness. Joy transforms perception, not just circumstances. When God heals us, it shows in how we live and witness. Before God’s work, people were surrounded by His activity but unable to perceive it. Spiritual healing allows us to see God’s hand where we once saw only chaos. Our ears become attuned to His voice rather than the noise of fear or distraction. Our lives become testimonies that point others toward God. Happiness reacts to good news; joy overflows because of who God is. When God restores us, our lives naturally begin to speak His praise.
