Peace in the In-Between
A devotional for Monday
Scripture
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise…He is being patient for your sake.”
2 Peter 3:9
Reflection
Waiting has a way of exposing what we believe about God. We know Jesus came once in humility and will come again in glory, but we live our entire lives between those two arrivals. That “in-between” place can feel confusing, uncertain, and even exhausting when life doesn’t move at our pace. The early church felt this tension deeply. They expected Jesus’ return within their lifetime and struggled when it didn’t happen. We understand that feeling far more than we’d like to admit. But Scripture reminds us that God’s timing is not a delay; it’s mercy. And in this stretch between what was and what will be, He invites us to live as people marked by His peace.
Peace isn’t passive; it’s something we cultivate in the waiting. God’s patience isn’t proof of absence—it’s evidence of His love for the world, including us. In the tension of “not yet,” He forms character, trust, and spiritual depth. When we align our waiting with His heart, the in-between becomes less of a burden and more of an opportunity. Peace grows where trust is practiced. And trust grows every time we believe God is working even when we don’t see movement.
Question/Challenge:
Where do you need to trade impatience for trust this week so peace can take root?
