God’s Refining Peace

A devotional for Tuesday

Scripture:
“Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?”
2 Peter 3:11

Reflection
Fire imagery can feel frightening when we read about the “Day of the Lord.” It’s easy to picture destruction instead of transformation. But biblical fire isn’t just about judgment. It’s about refinement. God removes what is corrupted so what is good can remain. That truth brings clarity to the peace He offers: peace isn’t the absence of hard things; it’s the presence of God in the middle of them. When we realize He is refining, not abandoning, our hearts steady. His peace is not fragile. It is purifying.

When God refines, He is perfecting us for the life He designed us to live. Peace comes when we recognize that discomfort is often the beginning of transformation. Just as impurities are burned out of precious metals, God removes what keeps us from wholeness. This process can feel like pressure, but it’s driven by love, not anger. Through refining, God restores what sin has damaged. And in that restoration, peace becomes not just a feeling, but a new way of being.

Question/Challenge:
What “impurity” or unhealthy habit might God be inviting you to release so He can bring deeper peace?
