Learning the Shepherd’s Voice
A devotional for Wednesday
Introduction:
You were never meant to navigate life alone. Psalm 23 paints a picture of a Shepherd who knows His sheep intimately and leads them with clarity, not chaos. But recognizing His voice takes time, intention, and proximity. Just like a mother zebra takes her newborn away from the herd so it can learn her markings and sounds, we grow familiar with God’s voice by getting away with Him regularly. The more time we spend with the Shepherd, the more easily we notice when another voice tries to slip in.
Scripture:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
Reflection:
The enemy’s whispers are subtle: fear, comparison, shame, discouragement. But the Shepherd speaks with truth, peace, and direction. Life to the full doesn’t come from striving harder; it comes from following the voice that leads you into freedom. The more you walk closely with Him, the quicker you recognize counterfeits. At the table God prepares for you, His voice is the loudest and clearest when you are surrendered and still.
Challenge:
How can you carve out intentional time this week to be alone with God so you can better recognize His voice?
