The Ache of Exile

Pastor Thomas Crummer   -

A devotional for Tuesday

Introduction:
Sometimes we feel like strangers in our own lives – surrounded by plenty, yet restless inside. Israel knew that feeling well. Living in Babylon, they had everything the world could offer, but their hearts still ached for home.

Scripture:
“For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.”
Isaiah 54:7 (NIV)

Reflection:
God’s people had forgotten who they were, until His compassion called them back. The same invitation is extended to us. Even when we’ve wandered into the comforts of “Babylon,” God’s heart still beats for our return. The ache in exile is not punishment. It’s homesickness for His presence.

Question/Challenge:
Where in your life have you settled for “Babylon”…comfort without closeness to God? Ask Him to stir up your longing for home again.
